Who We Represent

The Michigan Lumber and Building Materials Association has represented its industry since 1889. Currently, MLBMA represents over 600 independent lumber and building material dealers across the state of Michigan. Today we are on the front line providing services to and advocacy for the independent dealers and suppliers of Michigan's $6.8billion per year lumber and building materials industry.

Mission Statement

"The Michigan Lumber and Building Materials Association is a statewide trade association providing industry dealers and suppliers with strategic solutions for business enhancement, professional development, human resource enrichment, government relations advocacy, and multi-level networking opportunities. Our purpose is to expand the influence and impact of independent, community-based building material supply businesses on the residential construction industry in Michigan."

Vision Statement

"The Michigan Lumber and Building Materials Association will take the lead in creating a forum to bring together the leadership of industry associations in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin for the purposes of discussing the possibility of cooperatively supporting the formation of a regional building materials umbrella association before the close of the decade."

The reasons for establishing this regional organization are to reduce expenses resulting from duplicative staff, efforts, and services; increase efficiencies; aggregate buying power; increase member services/programs and thereby maximize the return on investment for member dealers and suppliers in the Lake States region.

This will be accomplished by (1) legally reserving the name "Great Lakes Building Materials Association" for future use, (2) coordinating and holding meetings with the leadership of the lake states associations, (3) continuing to expand the scope and effectiveness of MLBMA member services, (4) making these services available to other associations in the region through a partnership basis and seeking out services from their associations that MLBMA cannot deliver on its own, and (5) beginning the aggregation process with those associations that are interested and ready to do so, even if others are not.
