MLBMA, in partnership with the Lumber & Building Material Suppliers' Self-Insured Worker's Comp Fund, is able to provide members of MLBMA Worker's Compensation Insurance at considerable savings over the cost of conventional insurance coverage. Established in 1979, the Fund operates like a mutual insurance company with each member obligated for the liabilities of each fund year.  The Service Agency's in-house actuaries calculate each member's experience modification rate each year and the factor is used to determine each member's premium.  Dividends are distributed based upon the experience of the entire fund year-not upon that of the individual member. Participants in the Fund pay only 25% of their annual premium in advance; the balance is spread without financing charges, over the remainder of the year in equal monthly installments.  The State of Michigan and the reinsurance company constantly monitor the Fund, and the Board of Trustees elected annually by the participants sets its policy.
